1 How excellent in all the earth,
The Manifestation of Jehovah’s Name in the Dominion of the Son of Man
The sweet psalmist of Israel wonders at the grace of God towards man, and especially when he views the greatness and glory of Creation. He is conscious, too, that God can use even the chattering of children to confound His enemies. God’s care and mindfulness of man is staggering. The word for man is Enosh, which means the frail man; and the son of man, Ben Adam, depicts our natural state.
Man was created lower than the angels, yet his destiny is higher, even to glory and honour. The writer to the Hebrews, (2:9), beholds the greatness of man in the greatest Man, our representative Head, the Lord Jesus Christ. David begins and ends the psalm extolling the excellence of God and His transcendence over all His works.
